This report analyzed 163 schools in the Southeast Region to see which ones were the most popular doctor's degree programs for healthcare students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Nova Southeastern University the most popular school in the Southeast Region for healthcare students working on their doctor’s degree. Nova Southeastern University is a large private not-for-profit school located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida that handed out 966 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 64% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since NUS Florida does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. During the 2019-2020 year, about 52% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Florida. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Popular Healthcare Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region list. Gainesville, Florida is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 682 students in 2020-2021.

A rank of #4 on this year’s list means The University of Tennessee - Health Science Center is a great place for healthcare students working on their doctor’s degree. Memphis, Tennessee is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 564 students in 2020-2021.

Out of the 163 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill landed the # 5 spot on the list. UNC Chapel Hill is a public institution located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The school has a large population, and it awarded 555 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

University of Lynchburg did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for healthcare students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #17 on the list. Lynchburg is located in Lynchburg, Virginia and has a small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 331 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 60% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Lynchburg does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 78% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #18, West Virginia University did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for healthcare students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Morgantown, West Virginia, the large public school handed out 318 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
