This report analyzed 112 schools in the Great Lakes Region to see which ones were the most popular doctor's degree programs for healthcare students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named University of Illinois at Chicago the most popular school in the Great Lakes Region for healthcare students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Chicago, Illinois, the large public school awarded 868 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 62% of those degree recipients were women.
Online graduate courses are available at UIC, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 95% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at Ohio State University - Main Campus helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular healthcare schools in the Great Lakes Region . Located in Columbus, Ohio, the large public school awarded 672 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 60% were women.
Ohio State does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 76% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Out of the 112 schools in the Great Lakes Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Chamberlain University - Illinois landed the # 3 spot on the list. Chamberlain - Illinois is a private for-profit institution located in Addison, Illinois. The school has a large population, and it awarded 565 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 93% of those degree recipients were women.

A rank of #5 on this year’s list means Wayne State University is a great place for healthcare students working on their doctor’s degree. Detroit, Michigan is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 478 students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 55% were women.
One thing to take note of is that Wayne State does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 75% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
With a ranking of #6, Midwestern University - Downers Grove did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for healthcare students working on their doctor’s degree. University of Wisconsin - Madison came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Healthcare Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region ranking. UW - Madison is located in Madison, Wisconsin and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 424 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.

University of Toledo did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for healthcare students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #11 on the list. University of Toledo is located in Toledo, Ohio and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 341 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 62% of those degree recipients were women.
Online graduate courses are available at University of Toledo, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 29% took at least some of their classes online.
Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science ranked #12 on this year’s Most Popular Healthcare Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. RFUMS is a private not-for-profit institution located in North Chicago, Illinois. The school has a small population, and it awarded 404 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
