Our 2023 rankings named Palmer College of Chiropractic - Davenport the most popular school in Iowa for healthcare students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Davenport, Iowa, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 606 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 43% were women.
You’ll be in good company if you attend University of Iowa. The school came in at #2 on this year’s Most Popular Healthcare Doctor’s Degree Schools in Iowa list. Located in Iowa City, Iowa, the large public school awarded 452 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 58% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Iowa does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. During the 2019-2020 year, about 33% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Drake University. The school came in at #3 on this year’s Most Popular Healthcare Doctor’s Degree Schools in Iowa list. Located in Des Moines, Iowa, the small private not-for-profit school awarded 138 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.

You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Drake. During the 2019-2020 year, about 80% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.

Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Clarke University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for healthcare students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #6 on the list. Dubuque, Iowa is the setting for this very small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 42 students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 67% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Clarke. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 7% took at least some of their classes online.
With a ranking of #7, Briar Cliff University did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for healthcare students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Sioux City, Iowa, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 34 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

Since the graduate programs at Morningside are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Allen College ranked #9 on this year’s Most Popular Healthcare Doctor’s Degree Schools in Iowa list. Located in Waterloo, Iowa, the very small private not-for-profit school handed out 5 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 100% of those degree recipients were women.
Allen College does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 78% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Mount Mercy University ranked #10 on this year’s Most Popular Healthcare Doctor’s Degree Schools in Iowa list. Located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 4 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 75% were women.
One thing to take note of is that Mount Mercy does offer online graduate classes in some areas. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 62% took at least some of their classes online.
Graceland University - Lamoni landed the #11 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree healthcare programs. Located in Lamoni, Iowa, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 2 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

If you are interested in distance education, Graceland Lamoni is an excellent choice, since graduate classes are offered online.
